The status of the implementation of the SADC Regional Fisheries Control and Surveillance Coordination Center (MCSCC) was the highlight of the agenda on the second day of the 40th Meeting of the Southern African Development Community ( SADC) Fisheries Technical Commission. The Commission carried out a survey of the main achievements, highlighting the 11th signing of the letter by Botswana, which will allow the MCSCC to come into force on 8 April.

During the discussions, delegates and partners guided the SADC Secretariat to develop a Roadmap for the operationalisation of the MCSCC, which will be presented and approved by the region's Ministers in May. Likewise, they directed the Secretariat and the Government of Mozambique to sign the host country agreement with the MCSCC. It is important to note that WWF, as implementing partner, presented at the meeting the study on transparency in fisheries management in the SADC region, highlighting the importance and role of MCSCC as a platform for promoting transparency in the sector. This study also aims to harmonise transparency standards and promote public access to information on fisheries management.
