The State of Shrimp and Tuna Fisheries Governance in the South West Indian Ocean

This fisheries baseline report examines the status and challenges of fisheries management in the South West Indian Ocean region, focusing on commercially important tuna and shrimp fisheries as demonstrative of broader fisheries management challenges.

Published in 2024, this report provides a summary of the status of shrimp and tuna fisheries in five countries of the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) region: Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania. It includes country profiles and the results of an ecological risk assessment that considers the impact of climate change, and provides recommendations for the future sustainable management of tuna and shrimp fisheries in the region.
